Why Every Intercultural Wedding Needs the Right Celebrant and MC Working Together

In 2025, I had the pleasure of working alongside MC Mazi Onwuka at two extraordinary multicultural weddings. The first was in Manchester. The second, a few months later, in Bordeaux. Different countries, different cultures and different couples, but both celebrations highlighted the importance of having the right people around you on your wedding day.

As a celebrant who specialises in multicultural and destination weddings, I’ve seen firsthand how much difference a strong team can make. Intercultural weddings often bring together different traditions, faiths, languages and family expectations. When handled well, they create something truly magical. When handled poorly, important moments can easily get lost.

These two weddings also reminded me why I built Forever Loved Celebrancy around storytelling. Before becoming a celebrant, I spent a decade as a Deputy Superintendent Registrar, witnessing thousands of ceremonies. Today, every ceremony I create includes a bespoke poem written exclusively for the couple and performed as part of their wedding day. For intercultural couples especially, it becomes a powerful way to honour two stories, two families and two cultures within one celebration.

A ceremony like that deserves a celebration that carries the same energy forward, and that’s where an experienced MC becomes invaluable.

Mazi’s journey began in Nigerian radio, where he started as a presenter in 2015 before going on to work for several stations, including Wazobia FM, one of Nigeria’s most recognised broadcasters. His years behind the microphone are evident in the way he engages guests, reads a room and keeps a celebration flowing naturally.

While he hosts a wide range of events, Mazi is particularly known for intercultural weddings, traditional Igbo celebrations and Christian faith based weddings. Having worked alongside him in both Manchester and Bordeaux, I saw firsthand how effortlessly he connects with guests from different backgrounds and creates an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.

This is something I think about constantly in my own work as a UK and destination wedding celebrant. A celebrant creates the ceremony and tells the couple’s story. An experienced MC keeps that same warmth, connection and energy flowing throughout the reception. When those two roles work in harmony, couples can relax and be fully present, knowing every part of their day is in safe hands.
